Post-baccalaureate applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

• Official Transcripts: Your official transcript conferring a bachelor’s degree is required. Loyola University Chicago transcripts do not need to be requested; we have them on record.
• Admission Interview: Interview with the Director of the program is required prior to admission.  In-person and online appointments are available via the application. Applicants will discuss career goals as well as plan their schedule with the Director. To request a different time, please contact paralegal@luc.edu.
• Optional Letter of Recommendation: Letters of recommendation are not required; however, they are suggested for applicants with a grade point average below 2.80. Recommenders should be academic or professional in nature.  

The BA in Paralegal Studies is ideal for students who have earned an associate’s degree in paralegal studies at a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. This major also works well for applicants who have completed 15 or more paralegal semester credits at such an institution.

Students pursuing a BA from Loyola’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies also have the option to complete a paralegal certificate alongside their bachelor’s degree. 

Requirements: 

• Meet with your Academic Advisor: Discuss whether a paralegal certificate fits in with your other requirements and whether it will require additional time to complete.  
• Basic requirements include: 
  • Grade point average of 2.5 or higher 
  • Completion of CPST 200, CPST 201 and UCWR 110 
  • Within 48 credit hours of degree completion  
• Interview with Director of Institute for Paralegal Studies-email paralegal@luc.edu to schedule your interview 

Established paralegals are occasionally interested in taking a course or two to expand their knowledge base.  This privilege is limited to paralegals who have already earned both a paralegal certificate (or credential) and a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university program. 

When space permits, these applicants will be allowed to register for any paralegal studies course other than PLST 332/333, Legal Research and Writing I/II and PLST 398 Internship. Course prerequisites may be waived by the director, depending on the student's work experience and previous education. 

Requirements: 

• Online Application: Paralegals with certificates should apply for non-degree admission. Begin your application online.  
• Official Transcripts: Applicants must submit official transcripts showing an earned bachelor’s degree and paralegal credential (unnecessary for graduates of Loyola, Mundelein College, or Mallinckrodt College). 

Special Note: 
Non-certificate seeking students (Paralegals with Certificates) taking coursework with the Institute are allowed limited access to career assistance services provided by the Institute. While enrolled at the Institute, these students are welcome to use the materials in the Institute's Career Resource Center and those posted online, including the job board, and to attend group presentations on career matters. Other career services, such as individual consulting with the Institute director or staff, and the inclusion of resumes in the program's resume database, are not available.

Language Test Requirement 

An official TOEFL or IELTS score report is required for international applicants whose native language is not English. For the TOEFL, a score of at least 114 on the Internet-based or 650 on the written-based test is required. For the IELTS, a score of 6.5 or better is required. Copies and faxes are not accepted as official documents; we must receive test scores directly from the testing service.  Loyola’s school code is 1412. 

This requirement is waived for those who have completed a four-year U.S. bachelor's degree program, an accredited master's program in the U.S., or those who are citizens of or have completed a bachelor's degree at a recognized institution at which the language of instruction is English in these countries: Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand. 

Transcript Evaluation 

Non-U.S. educational credentials must be evaluated by a NACES member company to document equivalence to a U.S. bachelor’s degree or master’s degree.  Please submit your official education credentials (e.g., transcripts, mark sheets, degree certificates, graduation diplomas) and evaluation fee directly to the NACES member company of your choice. Please note: the evaluation is not an English translation of the marksheets, but a separate document completed by an evaluation service which shows that the degree you’ve received or are pursuing outside the U.S. is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree or U.S. master’s degree.
