About
Justin D. Wright (They/Them) joined the FCIP team in August 2022 as the new Anti-Oppressive Pedagogies Specialist in Faculty Development. Justin received their BA in Anthropology and Theatre from Transylvania University and their MA in Performance Studies from Washington University in St. Louis. They are currently working on their dissertation to complete their Ph.D. in Socio-cultural Anthropology at American University. Their professional and academic interests focus on anti-oppressive pedagogies writ-large, combatting transgenerational traumas and the educational survival complex, and poetic and theatrical explorations of Black ethnographic methodologies.
While Justin has not previously been a student of Jesuit education, their commitment to social and civic justice as well as their passion for growth through anti-racist and anti-oppressive pedagogies connects seamlessly with the characteristics of Jesuit Education. At FCIP, Justin manages all anti-racist and anti-oppressive programming, such as the Anti-Racist Pedagogy Certificate Program, the Anti-Oppressive Film Series, the Anti-Racist Pedagogy Series, and the hooks-Freire Series, among others. Prior to their time at FCIP, Justin worked as a contracted DE&I specialist and trainer, as well as a professor of both Anthropology and Theatre.
Justin looks forward to continually supporting the aims of the center and the Loyola community as a whole!
